Nexus Mutual Pays $6.1 Million in Neutrl Claims and Acquires a $6.7 Million Recovery Position

On October 15, 2026 the crypto cover mutual paid two depeg claims on a $13.2 million Neutrl USD position and, in a separate transfer, paid the same member $6.74 million for the position's recovery value, which it now counts in its capital pool at the price paid. The agreement behind the purchase has not been published.

Key facts

5
  1. Nexus Mutual's pool paid 6,141,884 USDC on two Neutrl USD depeg claims (#38 and #39) on October 15, 2026: 46.5% of a $13,208,353 position, the 49% loss less a 2.5% deductible
  2. The Advisory Board Safe separately paid the claimant 6,736,260 USDC (51% of the position, the Neutrl redemption rate) for its recovery value and raised the SafeTracker figure from 12,000,000 to 18,736,260 USDC, 20.3% of the pool on November 1
  3. The two payments total 0.975 per NUSD, the cover annex's 'Unit of Claim'
  4. Governor proposal 11 for the 6,736,260 USDC was created October 6; the claims were filed October 13 and approved within about three hours
  5. The assessors wrote that Nexus, through Terrapin International Foundation, 'has entered into an agreement with the claimant'; the agreement has not been published

Nexus Mutual, a discretionary crypto cover mutual on Ethereum, settled two claims from one member on October 15, 2026 with two separate payments; the claim payout is its largest for a single event by AltStreet's count of on-chain pool payouts. Its capital pool paid 6,141,884 USDC on two depeg claims covering a $13,208,353 position in Neutrl USD (NUSD). Hours later, the mutual's Advisory Board Safe paid the member a further 6,736,260 USDC that was not a claim payment. In their recorded vote reasons, Nexus's claims assessors wrote that Nexus, through its legal wrapper Terrapin International Foundation, 'has entered into an agreement with the claimant to ensure recovery value is preserved in place of the claimant being able to transfer the tokens'. The board then entered the 6,736,260 USDC into the capital pool's reported value.

The records indicate a purchase of the position's recovery exposure: the amount equals Neutrl's redemption value on the position, the assessors describe an agreement to preserve recovery value, and the payment was booked as a pool asset. The agreement itself, which has not been published, would establish exactly what Terrapin acquired: the NUSD tokens, an assignment of the claimant's redemption rights, or another contractual entitlement.

The transaction: a claim and an asset purchase

The claims. The member's two claim submissions (claim 38, claim 39), stored on IPFS under hashes recorded on chain, ask for 46.5% of the position: the 49% loss implied by Neutrl's redemption value of 51 cents, less a 2.5% deductible, or $6,141,884 split across two covers. All three members of Nexus's Claims Committee voted to accept within about three hours. The pool paid 4,549,543.70 USDC and 1,592,340.30 USDC on October 15.

The purchase. Governor proposal 11, titled 'Transfer 6,736,260 USDC to AB Multisig and track it via SafeTracker', moved that sum from the pool to the Advisory Board's 3-of-5 Safe. In one transaction the Safe paid 6,736,260 USDC to the claimant and raised the SafeTracker figure, a number the board Safe enters for holdings outside the pool contracts, from 12,000,000 to 18,736,260 USDC. The sum is 51% of the position, the Neutrl redemption rate. Together the two payments come to 0.975 per NUSD, the 'Unit of Claim' in the cover's product annex.

The chronology

The proposal for the purchase came a week before the claims were filed. Nexus's documentation invites claimants to work with the Claims Committee on the loss calculation before they file, so terms agreed before submission are consistent with that process; the date the agreement itself was signed is not public. Dates below are from the claim submissions and on-chain records; times are UTC.

What it did to the capital pool

The two payments affect the pool differently. The 6.14 million USDC claim payout reduced the pool's capital when it was paid. The 6.74 million USDC purchase also left the pool as cash, but it was replaced in the pool's reported value by the recovery position, entered at cost through the SafeTracker figure, so the reported value did not fall by that amount: cash was exchanged for a reported asset. In the November 1, 2026 blockchain snapshot the SafeTracker figure was 18,736,260 USDC, 20.3% of a pool the contracts value at 40,651.5 ETH-equivalent, about $92.3 million.

The position's value depends on what Neutrl pays and when. A long collection period adds liquidity and valuation risk; whether the carrying value should change depends on the agreement's payment terms and on how the position is valued. The SafeTracker figure changes only when the board Safe updates it, and the public record does not show how the position is assessed for impairment or adjusted for collection timing. A broader assessment of how Nexus Mutual's cover, capital pool and governance work is in AltStreet's Nexus Mutual review.

What is not public

The governance and assessor records above are public on chain. AltStreet located no dedicated explanation of the settlement from Nexus and no published agreement, and as of November 1, 2026 the public claims page ended at claim #37, before these claims (#38 and #39). Not public: the agreement between Terrapin International Foundation and the claimant, including what Terrapin acquired; how and when the recovery will be collected; how the 6.74 million USDC position will be valued as Neutrl pays; what has been recovered so far; and who the claimant is. Negotiating terms before a claim is filed does not by itself show anything improper in how the claims were handled; the questions are about the asset Nexus now holds and how it is reported.
